CMMI Quick Start Programmes

Trinity's Quick Start programmes are specifically designed to get individuals and organisations in a position to start their CMMI based improvement programmes as quickly as possible by combining training and consultancy tailored specifically to the needs of your staff and environment and which is uncomplicated by external distractions.

Kick Start is a workshop targeted at individuals who have been tasked with starting a CMMI programme but as yet have little knowledge of the CMMI and how to use it to implement a process improvement programme. There is an often quoted Chinese proverb, "If you don't know where you are a map won't help". Jump Start is for organisations that need to understand where they are against the CMMI before embarking on a process improvement programme. Jump Start is built around the SCAMPI C appraisal method and is designed to develop a gap analysis of your organisations processes against the practices of the CMMI upon which to base your improvement programme

These two activities can be combined to Turbo Start an organisation's CMMI programme.

CMMI Kick Start

This four day session is based around the Introduction to CMMI training course but is focused entirely on your specific needs and situation. It also includes additional practical elements taken from our “Applying the CMMI” workshop such as how to structure an improvement project, how to meet the needs of the business and customer, and delegates will be introduced to the SCAMPI appraisal method.

The session is targeted at audiences of between 1 and 4 individuals who are to be involved in a CMMI based improvement programme and need to get up to speed with the CMMI and SCAMPI appraisals as quickly as possible.

The session is conducted on your site at your time and convenience and each delegate will receive a copy of the course material, the CMMI book, and Trinity’s CMMI Quick Reference Guide. At the end of the course delegates will be registered with the CMMI Institute as having completed the Introduction to CMMI training course and will have an understanding of:

During the session we’ll also introduce delegates to our CMMI Assistant™ self-assessment tool and demonstrate how it can be used to manage a CMMI based improvement programme.

CMMI Jump Start
This programme is built around the SCAMPI C appraisal method and is designed to develope a gap analysis of your organisations processes against the practices of the CMMI upon which to base your improvement programme.

It will commence with an introductory meeting to discuss your requirements and for our consultant to familiarise themself with the structure of, and functions within, your organisation.

Following this meeting our consultant will produce a plan and schedule which will include the staff from your organisation that will be required to participate in presentations and interviews and that will assist with performing the gap analysis.

The gap analysis itself usually takes between four and severn days depending on the size of your organisation and the scope of the CMMI.  The pricipal activities are as follows:

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Brief Participants
To facillitate an open and collaborative assessment; staff, who will be participating in the   gap analysis, will be schooled by Trinity’s consultant on how interviews will be conducted and what their role will be.

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Review Documentation
A r
eview of project documentation and artifacts to assist in preparation for interviews with project staff and for mapping to the CMMI practices.

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Discussions with Staff
Discussions are held with staff about the processes they use and the artifacts that they produce.  The discussions will be facillitated by an objective outsider and not by internal 'people in authority’ thus allowing them to open up and provide information freely without fear of retribution.  The discussions are conducted without scripted questions thereby changing the approach form closed to open questions which will elicit a more accurate view of what is actually done.

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Prepare Findings
Mapping of interview information to the CMMI is fast and accurate (multiple practices can be covered in a single piece of information) and a documented statement is prepared for each gap against the CMMI that is identified.  This activity culminates in a detailed report of the CMMI practices that have not been met and the reasons why. 

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Analyse Results and Draft Strategic Plan

Findings across CMMI practices will be examined to determine common themes and to identify the risk they pose to the organisation thereby limiting the number of remedial actions required and ensuring that the actual problem, not the symptom, is addressed.  A high level plan for the improvement programme is constructed.

CMMI Quick Start Gap Analysis and Training Executive Briefing
The final activity is to ensure that your management are briefed by an objective and experienced consultant who will be able to relate previous experience to addressing the identified gaps and findings.  If required our consultant can also deliver a presentation of the identified gaps and the findings to your staff.
